Fellowship trained in Brisbane, I took up a post as a Consultant at St Bartholomew’s the Royal London Hospital dealing with degenerative conditions of the spine, disc prolapses, spinal tumours, infections and trauma (from the Helecopter Emergency Service). I remained in the NHS for 15 years before recently taking up full time private practice.

In 2001 I was the founder of a private rehabilitation clinic in Tower Hill (called “back2normal”), that deals with neck and back pain.

As well as the common conditions affecting the spine such as back and neck pain, prolapsed intervertebral discs, spinal instability, and degeneration, I have special interests including TB spine with a current active treatment population of 200+ cases of spinal TB. In addition I am part of a global development team in Minimal Access Surgery for spinal fusion including Extreme Lateral Interbody Fusion.

In 2009 I founded All About Spines, a multidisciplanry group dealing with conditions that affect the spine.

I am active in lecturing and training other professionals as well as promoting safe treatment for patients.

Back and neck pain are common conditions and many patients and therapists often need reassurance and explanations for the problems they are experiencing.

I believe strongly in conservative treatment first and that surgery is the last resort, and that the importance of the relationship between a therapist and a surgeon that they trust is paramount. Patients need to know that they are seeing someone who they trust and who understands and specialises in their problem. Respect for the patient and experience in treating these challenging conditions, together with the back up a multidisciplinary team is essential for a modern spinal surgeon.
